Do you see all of those beautiful faces? They are the faces of fellow cancer fighters and caregivers, faces that have become as dear to me as family, faces for whom I would walk a thousand miles.

Cancer changes the lives of not only the patient but of all those who surround you with love, care, and support. The cancer journey can be fraught with tests and missed musicals and scans and shortened play dates and doctors and a sink full of dishes and exhaustion. 

After a three year battle with my recurring cancer, my family and I were ready for a break.  We longed for a carefree way to reconnect and laugh out loud for no particular reason.

For Pete's Sake gave us that opportunity.  They granted us a respite vacation to Maine at an outdoor adventure camp called Wavus.  Deep in the woods of a part of the world we hadn't ever seen, we could relax and play outside, and try new adventures, and remember who we are.  But most of all, we got to build an instant family with the nine additional families who experienced the joys of Wavus with us.  To this day, our Wavus family stays connected. We laugh together, cry together, and grieve together as some beloved members lose their battles.  Because of Wavus and our new family, we have been changed for good. 

I believe in the mission of FPS and am walking to celebrate them and to support adult cancer patients, caregivers, and loved ones on April 26th at the 10th anniversary For Pete's Sake Walk!
